There are six towns: Tisbury/Vineyard Haven, Oak Bluffs, West Tisbury, Chilmark, Edgartown and Aquinnah.
The best way is to ride the Vineyard Regional Transit Authority -- (508) 693-9440-- Island-wide shuttle bus transportation. There are also bikes, mopeds, taxis, car rentals and on course, your own car. Parking, however, is scarce. There are several bus, boat or air tours of the Island.
Martha's Vineyard is 10 miles wide and 20 miles long. 100 square miles.

In an emergency, the ferry is very accommodating. They will let you on the boat. You may have to prove the emergency, however.
